BRAND SPOTLIGHT – MARICI

Launched on Earth Day in 2020, plant-based luxury accessories brand Marici was created by a collective who shared the belief in “purpose-driven alternative designs that combine innovative technology, niche luxury and slow fashion”.

Launched on Earth Day in 2020, plant-based luxury accessories brand Marici was created by a collective who shared the belief in “purpose-driven alternative designs that combine innovative technology, niche luxury and slow fashion”.

Marici is Sanskrit (an ancient Indo-European language of India) for “Ray of Light”, which reflects the brands appreciation for the Sun as the centre of our solar system and source of all life on Earth. The brand pay homage to the Sun by using innovative plant and earth-based materials to create stunning, timeless pieces.

The main material used to create Marici accessories is Pinatex which is an alternative to traditional leather and plastic. Pinatex is a revolutionary fabric that is made from up-cycling pineapple leaves and other offcuts and requires no additional land, water, pesticides or water to produce.

The interior lining of the bags are made from organic, vegan raw silk known also known as ‘peace silk’. Peace silk is a cruelty free alternative as it allows the silkworm to emerge out of the cocoon naturally. The fibres from these cocoons are spun together to form a silk which gives a luxurious feel and beautiful finish to the product.

Slow fashion is also central to the Marici brand with each piece being handmade using traditional techniques by master artisans in Venice. Only 50 units are created per style and colour making each design a collectible.

The brand is living by its mission “to offer beautiful designs whilst exploring innovative plant-based and environmentally friendly materials”.
